Actor, producer and TV host, Thomas Gumede is not happy with the SAFTAs

Local actor, producer and TV host, Thomas Gumede, took to social media to express his disappointment in the SAFTAs. Last year, the new Mzansi Magic’s drama series Abomama became an instant hit and trended every Sunday night but failed to impress the SAFTAs’ judging panel.

Abomama drama series, which was produced by Thomas Gumede’s production company Parental Advisory Productions, failed to score a SAFTA nomination and Thomas Gumede was not happy with it. Gumede told fans that at first he was so hurt and thought they must’ve not entered the SAFTAs properly but they did.

“So Abomama did not get even one nomination at the SAFTAs. Out of all the categories and all the shows nominated, a panel sat and decided that there was not a single thing that was done right on one of the highest rating dramas on Mzansi Magic (sic),” – Thomas tweeted.

“I’m just letting everyone know who supported the show every single Sunday. I don’t imagine anything will be done. I just wanted people to know we submitted properly (swipe left) and our team was shocked… I’m glad I’m gettin this off my chest, there was no incompetence on our side. The panel just didn’t believe we did ANYTHING right with Abomama (sic),” – Thomas wrote on Instagram.

Sunday Sun reported last week that two of South Africa’s biggest soapies Generations: The Legacy and Muvhango had also boycotted the awards over unfair treatment. The South African Film and Television Awards are set to take place on the 2nd of March at Sun City Super bowl in North West.
