Award-Winning Actress Thuso Mbedu Donates Matric Dresses

Local award-winning actress Thuso Mbedu is giving three girls the opportunity to own dresses that have marked important moments in her career and would would like to gift them to these lucky girls.

Taking to her Instagram page, the SAFTA award-winning actress, announced that this year she would like to do something for three matricutulants who have excelled in academics or in sports.

“Those who know me know that I hold applying oneself academically and sports-ally very close to my heart. So this year I would like to do something for three girls who have excelled in these spaces. I have three dresses that have marked important moments in my career and I would like to gift them to these girls. You can either submit yourself or nominate someone else if you know that they do not have access to social media.” – she wrote.

The Is’Thunzi actress encouraged her fans to either submit themselves or nominate someone else if they know that person does not have access to social media.



“When I wore this first dress it was my first time in Kenya for MTV Shuga DS Premiere. What a beautiful and magical night! The work that MTV Shuga does globally to educate and bring change is inspiring and one day I only hope to make an impact in the world. In the spirit of giving I will be giving away this dress to a lucky matriculant for their matric dance. You need to demonstrate that you have excelled in SPORTS this year in order to qualify.” she further stated.

The dresses were custom made so she cannot give an exact size but she generally falls into the Small, 30/32 category.

I wore this dress on my second trip to the @iemmys and what an honour to have been part of it a second time. The designer was winner of the first season of Project Runway SA and what a talented and light-filled human she is. I had an amazing evening and hopefully I can share the magic with one of you. I will be giving this dress away for a Grade 12 pupil for your matric dance ceremony. To qualify you need to show that you have excelled academically AND in sports.
