Speaking to Bona Magazine, Buhlebendalo Mda, who rose to fame as the female lead singer of popular South African Acapella group, The Soil, said her album is an expression of her feeling about social issues.

“I’m speaking to people who don’t see women, homosexuals and amadlozi (ancestors). People who think that God is only in church, is white and don’t see Him as a broad spirit. I’m speaking to our government that never listens to us. And, I’m also speaking to babies. I’m just giving thanks to the people who came before me.” – she said.

Iwotshi is the isiXhosa term for a watch. Buhlebendalo Mda from The Soil uses the metaphor on the song to claim that this is her time to venture into a solo career and expose the SA populace to her unique sound.
