Local pop sensation Daniel Baron is back with a brand-new single titled ‘Goddess’. On the new single, Daniel continues to push the boundaries while experimenting with different sounds and genres.

He continues to push himself creatively and, on ‘Goddess’, Baron blends his signature luminescent pop sound with a dark underground dance tone. The mystical new single sees Baron inspired by Gqom drum beats which he effortlessly weaves into the single whilst continuing to raise the bar by fusing genres and riddling them with ear-worm choruses.

“The inspiration of Goddess came about when I looked at the woman of my dreams and had a near apparition/vision as if I was staring at a heavenly being. It happens to me often when I’m near her. When humans are in love, our consciousness is elevated to a higher place, where heavenly creatures exist and anything is possible,” Daniel says on the new single. “I think we can get a similar feeling when we’re on a dance floor. I’ve been really inspired lately by the Gqom movement, and I thought it would be really cool to add a taste of that infectious beat into this song. It turned out to be groovier than just the normal 4/4 beat.”
Daniel says that experimentation is incredibly important to him when creating new music. “I’ve become like a scientist in my studio, literally spending hours on end, synthesising and transforming sonic elements, using simple things like my voice, a drum, and sounds that I hear around me,” Daniel explains. “I have always been fascinated by creating something new, something different, that I haven’t heard before. And it gives me a really great feeling to be able to watch people listen to something that I’ve created, that they’ve never heard before.”

David Guetta Lawsuit Update
After making headlines earlier this year with his plagiarism case against mega-producer David Guetta, who Daniel claims allegedly plagiarised his smash hit ‘Children of the Sun’ on the Sia-assisted track ‘Light Headed’, Daniel and his legal team are now planning their next course of action to continue the copyright battle. “We have taken the necessary steps in following through with the next phase of the legal procedure,” Daniel explains. “We are currently in the process of putting together our international team.”
Guetta’s local publisher, Geoff Paynter Music Publishing, confirmed that a letter of demand was sent to David Guetta last year. “We confirm we received a letter of demand in December 2018 which was immediately forwarded to our sub-publisher principles. They confirmed that they, in turn, forwarded the correspondence to their publisher principles,” Geoff Paynter said in a statement.

Guetta’s royalties from the offending song remain frozen at SAMRO, and Baron has done all in his power to make contact with Guetta and to determine whether an amicable solution could be found to address the blatant copyright infringement of Baron’s hit song, no response has been forthcoming from Guetta. Baron’s copyright lawyer, Stephen Hollis, partner at Adams & Adams law firm, has commented, “The days of South African artists being blatantly copied or ripped off without consequences by foreign artists are well and truly over. Copyright is protected internationally, and if we need to chase the infringer and sue him in a foreign jurisdiction to enforce Daniel’s copyright in his song and prevent further infringement, so be it.”.
Baron adds “While it hurts seeing someone copy something you put your blood, sweat and tears into without making contact and sampling it legally, it’s incredible to see that massive international acts are inspired by local music – and that’s a real honour.”
