Black Coffee (born Nkosinathi Maphumulo on 11 March 1976) is a South African record producer and DJ. He began his career around 1995 and has released five albums as well as a live DVD under his Johannesburg-based record label, Soulistic Music.

He is arguably the most prominent electronic music producer in Africa. Black Coffee had his big break shortly after being chosen as a participant in the 2004 Red Bull Music Academy held in Cape Town. In September 2015, he won the “Breakthrough DJ Of The Year” award at the DJ Awards in Ibiza, a few weeks after the release of his fifth studio album, Pieces Of Me.

Maphumulo was born in Durban, South Africa on 11 March 1976. He grew up in Ngangelizwe township, in Mthatha, Eastern Cape. In February 1990, as people were celebrating the release of Nelson Mandela on the streets of Ngangelizwe, from 27 years of imprisonment, Black Coffee was involved in a taxi accident that left his left arm paralyzed and changed his life. About the accident, Black Coffee says.

“In the past years this day use to be quite heavy on me, still does to some extent but looking back at how far I’ve come since then I can only be grateful for how this day has shaped me to be the man that I am. 27 years later I choose to celebrate this day…also making a promise to myself to explore everything talent I have and be everything God wanted me to be when he spared my life,”

On the 13th of May 2011, he married actress and TV presenter Mbali Mlotshwa. He has fathered two children with her: Anesu and Asante, and two more from previous relationships: Esona and Lilitha.
