While many South Africans celebrated the day (11 February 1990) that the former president Nelson Mandela was released from prison after 27 years, internationally-renowned DJ Black Coffee took to Instagram to reflect on an incident that left him with brachial plexus.

30 years ago, DJ Black Coffee was involved in a horrific accident which took two other lives. The day brought back painful memories for Coffee. The DJ shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram page alongside a newspaper clipping of Nelson Mandela when he was released from jail 27 years ago.
“It’s been 30 years. 30 years ago excatly at this hour I was in hospital in pain after an accident that took 2 lives while we were celebrating the release of this great human being Nelson Mandela from 27 years of prison (sic)” – Black Coffee wrote on Instagram
“Reflecting on the pain I have been and still going thru while on a journey of recovery learning to accept the new me while being selfless about God’s plans with me. I understand why HE gave me music,to heal me 1st before it even gets to you. I’m great full for every note and every melody. I will continue to follow HIS lead. God is with us (sic),” – Coffee added
