Vacancies in the Public Service

DPSA uses circulars. A government circular is a job advertisement which is distributed to a large number of people. DPSA circulars are published every Friday and contain the advertisements of available DPSA jobs and vacant jobs in Public Service departments.

Directions to Candidates

  • Applications must be accompanied by a Z83 form with full particulars of the applicant and a CV and must be forwarded to the National Department/Provincial Administration/Government Department in which the vacancy/vacancies exist(s).
  • Applicants must provide the reference number of the vacancy in their applications.
  • Applicants requiring additional information regarding an advertised post must direct their enquiries to the department where the vacancy exists. DPSA must not be approached for such information.
  • Applications should be forwarded their job application forms to the advertising department on time before the closing date.
  • Failure to submit the requested information will result in your application not being considered.

Applying for a government job in South Africa

It’s now easier to apply for a government job in South Africa. All government departments and their components have been directed to stop the practice of requiring certified copies of documents not older than three months to accompany applications for employment.

Last year, the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) issued a circular – Human Resource Planning and Employment Practices: Circular No 35 of 2019 – which makes it clear that the prescribed application for employment form (Z-83) and the Public Service Regulations do not prescribe a three month timeframe for certification of documents that accompany applications.

The decision comes after were complaints raised with President Cyril Ramaphosa on social media and through other channels about the onerous requirements for compliance with public sector job applications.

“It has come to the attention of the President and the Minister for the Public Service and Administration that departments have adopted a practice of requiring certified copies of documents not older than three months to accompany applications for employment,” the Presidency said.

Departments can now accept certified copies of documents submitted with an application for employment that are up to six months old, in those cases where the document certified does not have an expiry date that falls within the six-month period.
