Ennock Mlangeni: From Art Competition Winner to Judge

Ennock Mlangeni is a self-taught visual artist who works with various mediums and does various
art styles such as waste, pen art, coffee and paints. Ennock lost both his parents by the age of 7 and started his art journey in his one room shack. In 2018 he won the BIC Art Master Competition and in 2020 he had his first career solo exhibition in Belgium. Ennock now joins a panel of talented judges from all over Africa for the 2021 BIC Art Master Competition.

He believes art plays a huge role in society, especially for children.“I believe art can be used to
communicate with children and keep them safe from drugs”. In this respect, he has built a studio called The Shack Art Studios where he teaches art to young and developing artists.

Ennock was born in a small rural town in Petrus Steyn, Free State, South Africa, and later moved to Vaal to stay with his grandmother after losing his parents.

Ennock recently shared on social media: “In 2017 I created a well known mama-Winnie art piece with a pen and in 2018 I won the BIC Art Master competition with the same piece. Fast forward 2021 I am selected as one of the judges for such a huge competition as is now not only for South Africans but other neighboring countries as well”.

Now in its 4th year, the BIC Art Master contest plans to recognise and celebrate artists throughout Africa as well as The Middle East. Using only BIC ballpoint pens, entrants have the freedom to express their creativity while playing on this year’s theme, ‘Enchant Everyday Life’.

Artists can submit a maximum of three original and authentic artworks on the BIC Art Master portal by 31 May 2021.

Ennock Mlangeni is one of six judges on the panel, made up of artists, sculptors, art professors and art collectors. The grand prize for the competition is $2,000, a personalised online gallery and an opportunity to be featured as part of the BIC Art Collection. The 2nd prize winner will walk away with a $1000 cash prize, and the 2nd runner-up will win a $500 cash prize.
