“While there is currently no loadshedding anticipated, Eskom would like to request the public to reduce the usage of electricity. The power system is under severe pressure due to a number of generating unit breakdowns, which will necessitate an increased utilisation of emergency generation reserves.

Total breakdowns amount to 14 925MW while planned maintenance is 4 759MW of capacity. Should there be any further breakdowns, Eskom might be forced to implement loadshedding at short notice.” – Eskom earlier said in a press release

“In order to replenish emergency generation reserves, Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented starting tonight from 21:00 to 05:00 in the morning, and will again resume on Friday night at 21:00 to 05:00 on Saturday morning” – Eskom said on Twitter

“While Eskom expects a number of generating units to return to service from breakdowns during the course of the next few days, we urge the public to reduce the usage and to continue using electricity sparingly to assist in avoiding loadshedding.

Eskom will communicate promptly should there be any significant changes to the power system. Eskom has not implemented loadshedding since 22 July 2021.” – Eskom concluded

City Power also warned customers and also took to Twitter to alert South Africans about the Eskom Loadshedding Stage 2
