Why is Eyadini Lounge popular?
Eyadini is the first place that many people outside the province want to visit and experience when on holiday in Durban. The venue also attracts top South African artists, such as Babes Wodumo, Distruction Boyz, DJ Merlon, Tipcee and DJ Tira also performing there. With much of its popularity attributed to viral social media photos of people walking into the Eyadini venue, it’s arguably the best place to be.
Eyadini Lounge is owned by Jabulani “Mjay” Zama, born and bred in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal. Zama started out as a policeman who then went into the towing business, driving his own tow trucks in Umlazi.
He then later ventured into the hospitality industry with Eyadini Lounge. The venue was built from scratch in 2009. The business only started operating in 2011.
Speaking to enca news, Zama said the property that Eyadini Lounge is built on was previously a scrap yard and this is why the owner decided to call the venue Eyadini, which when directly translated simply means “at the yard”.
The venue has managed to attract people from all over South Africa. This is because they make sure people always get what they came for. The venue has launched the careers of the likes of Zodwa Wabantu, who now travels the world to show off her dance moves.
Since it opened its doors in 2011 for the first time, the lounge has grown and achieved a lot. They even have their own marquee at the Vodacom Durban July.
