It hasn’t been easy for friends and family of Neyi Zimu. Earlier this year, the Jehova Re Tshepile Wena hitmaker’s skin started changing and according to Channel24, he would appear in public and onstage wearing gloves. The changes eventually started showing on his face too, but it never stopped the gospel star from performing.

Speaking to fans, Neyi’s brother finally broke the silence and told them what was happening. He said: “Neyi has a very rare skin cancer, we thought it was something small until the diagnosis.” Neyi was scheduled to perform at a recent gospel concert in Polokwane. Unfortunately, the gospel star wasn’t able to honor his booking as his health further deteriorated.

“The good news is that he is in good hands, specialists and doctors are looking after him 24 hours [a day]. Hence, as a family, we said he needs to be grounded just to get rid of this disease so that he can come back healthier.”

Later during the concert, Pastor Solly Mahlangu and his fans prayed for his healing.

EFF leader Julius Malema, has also asked South Africans to pray for Neyi. Malema visited Neyi at Baragwanath Hospital and told his Twitter followers that the pastor was fighting for his life at hospital.

“This morning we paid Pastor Neyi Zimu a visit at Baragwanath Hospital and we are impressed with the progress our brother and gospel veteran musician is making. My fellow countrymen and women let’s pray for him and his family during these difficult times. #PrayForNeyiZimu (sic),” – Julius Malema tweeted.

Julius Malema said he was satisfied with the progress the gospel star was making, but urged South Africans to pray for him and his family.
