SASSA SRD Grant South Africa

SRD

Keeping your contact information up to date is essential for receiving timely updates from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). If you’ve changed or lost access to the mobile number linked to your SRD R370 grant application, it’s important to update it immediately to continue receiving SMS alerts, status updates, and OTPs.

This guide explains all the verified methods you can use to change your SASSA SRD phone number in 2025 — whether you’ve lost your number, don’t have your application ID, or are unable to receive an OTP.

Why It’s Important to Keep Your SRD Phone Number Updated

SASSA relies on your registered mobile number to:

  • Send you updates about your application status
  • Deliver OTPs for login or verification
  • Notify you of appeal outcomes
  • Share payment dates and banking changes

If your phone number is outdated, you may miss crucial messages that can affect your access to the SRD grant.

How to Change Your SRD Phone Number Without Application ID

If you don’t remember your SASSA application ID, you’ll need to retrieve it first before you can change your phone number.

Step 1: Retrieve Your Application ID

  1. Go to a reliable SRD grant status checker
  2. Enter your old phone number and South African ID number.
  3. Click on “Check SRD SASSA Status.”
  4. Your application ID (AppID) will be displayed at the top of the results page.
  5. Write it down — you’ll need this number to update your contact information.

Step 2: Change Phone Number via SASSA SRD Portal

  1. Visit the official SASSA SRD website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za.

  2. Scroll to the “South African ID Holders” section and select it.

  3. You’ll be redirected to this page: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/contact.

  4. Enter the following:

    • Your 13-digit ID number

    • Your 6-digit application ID

  5. Click submit and you’ll receive an OTP.

  6. Enter the OTP to verify your identity.

  7. Provide your new phone number.

Note: You can only submit one phone number change request every 24 hours.

How to Change Your SRD Phone Number via WhatsApp

If you prefer using WhatsApp, SASSA also offers limited support via chat.

Steps to Change Phone Number on WhatsApp

  1. Save 0600 123 456 to your phone contacts.
  2. Open WhatsApp and start a chat.
  3. Type “Hi” or “Hello” to begin the process.
  4. Reply with “Change Phone Number” when prompted.
  5. You’ll be asked to provide your application ID and ID number.
  6. A link will be sent to you where you can submit your new phone number.

This method is convenient but may take longer depending on system load.

How to Change Your SRD Phone Number Without Receiving OTP

SASSA typically requires an OTP to verify identity when updating phone numbers. However, if you no longer have access to the old number and cannot receive an OTP, follow this process:

Visit a SASSA Office In Person

  1. Go to your nearest SASSA office.

  2. Bring the following:

    • Your valid South African ID card or green ID book

    • Your SRD grant application ID

  3. Explain your situation and request to update your phone number manually.

  4. The SASSA official will assist you with verification and update your records.

Note: Phone number updates without OTPs can only be processed in person for security reasons.

Conclusion

Ensuring that your current and correct phone number is on file with SASSA is essential for staying informed about your SRD R370 grant. Whether you’ve lost access to your old number or simply want to update your contact details, several reliable options are available — including the SRD website, WhatsApp, and in-person support at SASSA offices.

Always ensure that your application ID is available when making changes. For the most secure and efficient experience, use official SASSA platforms and avoid sharing sensitive information on unofficial websites or apps.
