Kelly Khumalo is a South African singer, actress and dancer. Kelly was born on 1st November 1984 in Spruitview, Gauteng, Sout Africa. She was named the Best Newcomer of 2005 in the Afro Pop music circuit. In May 2013, at the 19th South African Music Awards (SAMA) held at Sun City, she won the Best Female Artist award.

Speaking out about having been in an abusive relationship, in 2012 she became an advocate against domestic violence. The singer confessed to being a drug addict for at least two years during her relationship with the singer Molemo Maarohanye, she attended Narcotics Anonymous meetings.[13] On 26 October 2014, her boyfriend Senzo Meyiwa captain of the South Africa men’s national football team and club side Orlando Pirates with whom she has a child was shot dead in her presence at her family’s home in Vosloorus.

Kelly Khumalo Music Career

In 2003 she was discovered by Sarah and Bonsai Shongwe when she performed at a Gospel Star Search. Bonsai Shongwe later became her producer. She did perform at small venues to get accustomed to performances. Her first performance as a professional artist was in front of a 30 000 strong crowd at a Kaizer Chiefs soccer match. Then hardly two months into the music industry she was the opening act for American Rap star, Missy Elliot.

In 2005 she released her debut album ‘TKO’ which had her hit song ‘Qinisela’ which remained on national radio charts for five months. The album was nominated twice at the South African Music Awards (SAMA) and Kelly was the only female artist nominated in the Song of the Year category.

Kelly Khumalo’s second album “Itshitshi” was released at the end of 2006. The album was also nominated for a SAMA, as well as her third album, titled “Lobola”. Kelly’s fourth album, titled “Simply Kelly” showed a more mature artist who was growing in her craft. The album featured American songstress Syleena Johnson.

In 2012 she released her album titled ‘ The Past, The Present , The Feature’. The album featured the hit song I Live For Love. The album won Kelly the Best Female Artist Award in 2013, a huge milestone in her career.

In 2014, she released her album ‘Back to my Roots’. The album featured Asine, a Venda song that shot to the Top 10 on the iTunes World Music, where it remained there for weeks. The album further cemented Kelly as one of South Africa’s finest vocalists, reaching gold in no time.

The singer gave birth to a baby girl. The singer took to Twitter to thank everyone for their well wishes on the birth of her second child, a daughter named Thingo (rainbow in isiZulu). The tweet read, “Thank you all for the congrats Msgs Baby Thingo(Rainbow) and I are healthy and Happy. God bless.”

Kelly Khumalo Acting Career

Her first acting career was her role on a youth drama ‘Mthunzini.com.

In 2007, when the youth soapie ‘Rhythm City’started she was chosen to play ‘Sunay’- a singer who has massive talent, as well as load of a stinking attitude.

She is also a reality TV Star on etv’s Rolling with Kelly as well as Reality Check.

She is also being featured on an upcoming movie ‘My Zulu Wedding’ alongside international actors Darrin Henson and Carl Anthony Payne.

Kelly Khumalo Family

She is a mother of two children, a son Christian whose father is a convicted rapper Molemo Maarohanye popularly known as Jub Jub. She was romantically involved with Senzo Meyiwa who was a footballer. Senzo was shot dead at Kelly’s home in an alleged armed robbery. By the time of his death Kelly was heavily pregnant and in March 2014 she gave birth to a girl who she named Thingo which means rainbow in IsiZulu.
