The founder of Ladysmith Black Mambazo Joseph Shabalala has passed away. Bhekizizwe Joseph Siphatimandla Mxoveni Mshengu Bigboy Shabalala, died aged 78.

Joseph Shabalala died in hospital in Pretoria. The news about Shabalala’s passing was confirmed by the group’s manager, Xolani Majozi. The details around his death have not yet been disclosed, but he he passed away after a long illness.
According to ewn, the 78-year-old singer was hospitalised last month after being treated for an undisclosed illness last year.

South African president Cyril Ramaphosa called him a ‘veteran choral maestro’, “We celebrate and honour your kind heart and your extraordinary life. Through your music and the millions who you came in contact with, you shall live forever”.
The group’s manager Xolani said the group members were devastated by the sad news. “The group is currently touring America and will now cut their tour short and deal with the situation. They’ll be leaving after the meeting with family today.”
