Kenyan born actress Lupita Nyongo announced on social media that she would be starring in a feature film based on Trevor Noah’s book.
The book titled “Born a Crime”, written by the Daily Show host himself, will be adapted into a movie.
Lupita will play the role of Patricia, Trevor’s mother who survived a gunshot wound to the head after being shot by his stepfather 9-years ago.
The autobiography was released worldwide in November 2017, which is a comical look at Trevor Noah’s upbringing and childhood in South Africa.
Nyongo was recently in South Africa for the premiere of Marvel’s latest movie, Black Panther where she starred alongside many South African actors.

In recent interviews, Noah has always said that the hero of his autobiography was and still is his mother. In one of the chapters, Trevor explained why his mother played such a vital role in both his childhood and adult life:
“My mom raised me as though there were no limitations on where I could go or what I could do. When I look back, I realized she raised me like a white kid, not white culturally but in the sense of believing that the world was my oyster, that I should speak up for myself and that my ideas, decisions and thoughts matter.”
