Since its inception, Maftown Heights has been more than just a festival; it has become a cultural phenomenon and a rite of passage for Motswako fans and SA hip hop fans at large.

Over the years, SA hip hop fans have been treated to some iconic performances on the Maftown Heights stage.  For the 2024 edition, Maftown Heights is pulling out all the stops! With a line up co-curated by Khuli Chana and Maglera Doe Boy, the festival’s all-star lineup brings together the pioneers who built the foundation of Motswako along with the new generation pushing the culture forward.

Maglera Doe Boy

Leading the charge is The Motswako Republic, featuring none other than Cassper Nyovest, Khuli Chana, Mo Molemi, Morafe, Tuks, Lection, Notshi and Fifi Cooper to name a few. Fans can expect these legends to deliver the timeless classics that made them household names! Through uniting on stage, they will remind us of the powerful Motswako legacy.

Embracing the new wave of talent, Maftown Heights introduces The NuTswako Nation – a dynamic segment highlighting the fresh faces and future of Motswako. Artists such as Maglera Doe Boy, Boity & Roiii, Loatinover Pounds, Mochen, Thato Saul and 25k will bring their unique sounds and perspectives, demonstrating that Motswako’s spirit remains vibrant and relevant to today’s generation.

But the magic doesn’t stop there. For fans of South African hip-hop who have watched the genre’s evolution over the years, the festival brings a star-studded lineup of Friends of The Motswako Republic and The NuTswako Nation. K.O, a Maftown Heights staple, returns to deliver yet another show-stopping performance! Other heavyweights such as Emtee, Nadia Nakai & Moozlie, Sjava, A-Reece, Blxckie, Usimamane, Tony Dayimane and Qwellers will take to the stage to ensure that festival attendees enjoy an unforgettable showcase of the best SA hip hop has to offer!

The festival also recognises the importance of cultivating young talent. Through its New Kidz On The Block performance segment, the festival showcases the future flag bearers of SA hip hop. The alumni of the Maftown Heights New Kidz on the Block performance segment includes artists who have gone on to become hip hop staples such as A-Reece, Nadia Nakai, Gigi LaMayne, Priddy Ugly, Shane Eagle, Frank Casino, Ginger Trill, just to name a few.  The New Kidz on the the Block class of 2024 is Lia Butler & WNDRSZN, Buzzi Lee, and Kane Keid. For the first time ever, the festival will be running a talent search competition called “Who Got Next?” to fill the final slot in the New Kidz on the Block performance segment. Details will be announced on how aspiring artists can enter in the days to come.

Khuli Chana

The 2024 edition features a lineup of heavy-hitters, including MashBeatz, Major League DJz, Lamiez Holworthy, Speedsta, Venom, Fif Laaa, Zan-D, MsCosmo and Ayanda MVP, ensuring the beats and rhythms keep the crowd moving long into the night.

With energetic hosts like Shamiso, Collen Costa, Caddy and Stoan hyping up the audience, the festival promises an unforgettable atmosphere.

The return of Maftown Heights is more than just a reunion; it’s a celebration of history, culture, and the spirit of Motswako. It’s a reminder of the impact that Motswako has had and continues to have on South African music, as well as how the movement continues to unite people across generations and borders.
