Matwetwe actor Tebatso Mashishi mourns Sibusiso Khwinana

Condolences continue to pour in for Matwetwe actor Sibusiso Khwinana. The 25-year-old actor was stabbed to death in a botched robbery at the Sterland mall on Friday evening.

According to various sources, it was understood that Sibusiso was at the Sterland mall for a screening of the movie in which he played the role of Lefa alongside Papi, played by Tebatso Mashishi.

Fellow cast member Tebatso Mashishi, who visited Khwinana’s family with writer and director Kagiso Lediga in Soshanguve, Tshwane on Sunday, was taken away as he could not hold back his tears.

“Sibusiso was destined for superstardom. He was a natural performer,” Kagiso Lediga said.

Police spokesman Captain Mavela Masondo said cops were working hard to catch the people who murdered Khwinana.

Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, also expressed his shock and sadness on Twitter, saying: “We are devastated to learn of the tragic & untimely passing of Celebrated Actor & the pride of Soshanguve Sibusiso Khwinana whose talent was demonstrated in his performance in the box-office hit #Matwetwe. He was also a founding member of the Independent Theatres Makers Movement (sic).”
