Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss SA 2019 on Women’s Day, August 9. She walked away with the title as well as R3-million in prize money and sponsorships deals.

Following public backlash, the poll which was posted on the station’s official Twitter page, was deleted and replaced with a congratulatory message.

Metro FM also issued an apology, calling the unfortunate choice of words “unapproved content” placed on social media without the station’s endorsement.

The statement reads: “Metro FM is aware of the Twitter poll that went out on social media this morning on #TheWkndr Show. We confirm that the social media poll was unapproved content placed on social media without endorsement from the station.

“Metro FM does not stand for the content of this poll and distance ourselves from it. We consider this to be totally against our ethos and brand values,” the statement said.

Speaking to Sunday World, the 25-year-old Zozibini said that she was unshaken by Metro FM poll, saying that she would have been offended if the poll questioned her intelligence.

“We together with the rest of South Africa celebrate women of all backgrounds, and are truly proud of the new Ms South Africa.” – the statement further stated.
