Obani Labantu hitmaker Gee Six Five passes away from COVID-19

Obani Labantu hitmaker Gee Six Five, whose real name is Nkosingiphile Olpha Selepe, has passed away. The sad news of the 65-year-old Gee Six Five‘s passing was confirmed by her niece Sbu Mpungose in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“My beloved aunt, MumNcane who many of you know as Gee Six Five, is no more. She displayed leadership throughout her life, was the epitome of fearlessness and inspired many with her single Obani Labantu. Mthiya, Shandu kaNdaba, Sontshikazi. RIP Gee Six Five,” she wrote in a short statement on Twitter.

According to SABC News, GeeSixFive died of Coivd-19 complications after receiving a positive diagnosis on Monday.

The 65-years-old grandmother became famous with her hit song Obani Lababantu which was trending on both social media and online music stores.

According to a statement released on Gee Six Five’s Twitter page, she composed and released the hit song after retiring from her teaching career. Gee Six Five completed her Master’s degree at the age of 63 in 2018. At the time of her death, she was busy pursuing a doctoral degree.
