“In this industry you have to be a character and being known as just Ringo’s son annoys me.” Phila Madlingozi says he even refuses to walk in the streets with his dad or attend events with him because he will be labeled “Ringo’s son” and not be seen for his acting and singing talent.

“I became gatvol of it all and I just decided to leave Jozi for a bit to get away from the noise and to cleanse my soul at home. I’m not doing anything ritualistic but being away from Johannesburg has helped me to appreciate myself and know who I am so I am able to come back and collect more awards,” says Phila.
