Just like the first game, the sequel tells its story through an invented language with no subtitles. Players are encouraged to interpret the narrative themselves, treating the language and characters as another mystery to unravel. In this feature, however, we’re offering Xbox Wire readers a deeper look into Novo’s transformation and what awaits when you return to this beautiful yet troubled world.
A World in Flux
The original Planet of Lana followed 11-year-old Lana on an emotional journey to rescue her sister after mysterious machines raided her village. Joined by her loyal companion Mui, she ventured across a breathtaking yet perilous planet—and what she discovered hinted at a much larger conflict.
Now, in Planet of Lana II, chaos has overtaken Novo. Advanced alien technology has reshaped society, pushing its tribes to adapt—or be destroyed. A new faction known as The Dijinghala exploits this technology to strip Novo’s resources. When Lana’s niece becomes entangled in this escalating exploitation, Lana and Mui embark on another urgent quest to protect their home. Their mission quickly deepens, forcing them to face the buried truths of their past and that of Novo itself.
Three Factions, Three Perspectives
In the time since the first game, Novo’s people have fractured into three distinct groups—each with its own stance on the mysterious machines.
Tailo Village
Lana’s calm lakeside home has embraced the machines, integrating them into farming, fishing, and daily life. For Tailo, the relationship is one of balance and cooperation.
Wemari Village
Hidden within the dense Wemari forest, this guarded community views the machines with deep suspicion. Their distrust makes this region both mesmerizing and dangerous, requiring a cautious approach from players.
The Dijinghala
Forged in Novo’s desolate northern lands, The Dijinghala have rapidly grown into a planet-wide threat. Obsessed with progress, they repurpose machines to extract resources at a devastating scale. Inevitably, Lana and Mui’s journey will lead to tense confrontations with these relentless forces.
A Broader, Wilder Novo
To reflect the scale of Novo’s upheaval, Planet of Lana II introduces a wide variety of new environments—snow-covered peaks, vast oceans, ancient forests, abandoned ruins, and even urban landscapes. Each biome features new creatures, new mechanics, and fresh challenges across the game’s 6–8 hour campaign.
Naturally, these new places hide long-lost secrets. Players who pay close attention will uncover additional pieces of Novo’s forgotten history—both human and otherwise.
