As The Weeknd collects another No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 with the ascendant “Blinding Lights,” much of the top 10 on the most competitive songs ranking looks similar to how it did last frame. That includes Post Malone’s “Circles,” which keeps at No. 5 for another frame, and by doing so, it joins a very small number of songs in the history of the chart that have reached a special milestone.
“Circles” has now spent 30 weeks inside the Hot 100’s top 10, which, unsurprisingly, remains a very rare feat…although the number of cuts that have managed to hit that mark has increased noticeably in the past few years.
With 30 frames inside the highest tier on the tally to its credit, “Circles” is now tied with two other smashes for the fourth-most turns between Nos. 1 and 10. Both Santana and Rob Thomas’ “Smooth” and Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” lived in the region for just as long before departing.
Ahead of Post Malone and company are just seven tracks that have held on for a longer stay.
Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” stands alone with 31 weeks inside the top 10, the third-most ever. Ahead of that pair come LeAnn Rimes’ “How Do I Live,” The Chainsmokers and Halsey’s “Closer” and Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” all of which are tied for the honor of having the second-longest-charting top 10 hit ever. Their tunes all occupied space inside the arena for 32 turns.
Leading the way among all songs as the longest-charting top 10 blockbusters in the history of the Hot 100 are three cuts, all of which appeared inside the tier for 33 frames. Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” Maroon 5 and Cardi B’s “Girls Like You” and Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” all succeeded for that length of time, and they may soon be joined by Malone’s latest hit.
