Recap: Here’s what went down at Africa Rising Music Conference

Africa Rising Music Conference (ARMC), a female led music conference started by Sarah Jane Nicholson, focused on bridging the gap between African music and its connection to the European market, came back in grand fashion this year.

The 2-day informative and enriching gathering at Johannesburg’s unique Hallmark Hotel hosted a range of A-list speakers from across difference sectors of the music business. With an aim to capacitate executives for international exchange and build independent structures within Africa discussions inside the conference sessions were two way with high engagement from local attendees.

What made this conference special is the mix of local and international stakeholders but also the panel discussions which hosted active relevant executives within the urban and electronic music sector.

A delegation of 23 executives from The Netherlands supported by The Dutch Music Export allowed for International perspectives on the afro centric sound reaching Europe and how local managers, artists and labels should approach engaging with the market in Europe.

Paradise Worldwide Snr Label Manager and Connoisseur Recordings (DE) label owner Alex Flitsch hosted a packed panel titled ‘BUILDING A PRO LABEL; THE INDEPENDENT WAY’. Joined by Worldwide leaders in the afro house scene Ntokozo Phungula (Assistant Operations Manager Soulistic Agency), MegaBlast (Luvlite Recordings) from Austria and Mimmo Falkone (Moblack Recordings) from Italy.

Commenting on the experience MegaBlast said “ARMC was a great experience to meet amazing artists and connect. I was impressed about this huge amount of talent and local expertise eager to grow their international reach.

The conference has received rave reviews and hailed by for its work in amplifying female voices and building bridges between the continent and the rest of the world. ARMC has already started plans for the next edition and is dedicated to continue helping African artists and executives see the true benefits and rewards for their talent and commitment.
