Rhythm City suspends production following actor’s murder

According to SABC news, Television programme Rhythm City producer, Yula Quinn, says they have suspended production for a few days to allow the cast and crew of the popular soapie to recover following the murder of Dumi Masilela.

Masilela was admitted to hospital on Wednesday night after he was shot during what police believe was an attempted hijacking in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg.

Meanwhile, the aunt of the actor has also died – reportedly after hearing of his death.

Masilela is best known for his role as Sifiso Ngema on the soapie.

Peter Sephuma who plays the role of Miles Vilakazi also spoke to SABC news and expressed his sadness and anger towards crime in the country.

Quinn says the cast is shocked by his sudden death. “They are overwhelmed by (the news). Everybody’s very saddened by the news and we have stopped production for a few days so that everybody can recover. There are plans for us to have counselling when everybody returns to work,” says Quinn.

An emotional Jamie Bartlett (David Genaro), who was also hijacked early this year, was on set with Dumi during his last day and had told the young actor that he was doing well in his craft as an actor.
