SA to LA – Amy Letcher’s Leap of Faith Across The Pond

For anyone growing up on the outskirts of a small town in KwaZulu Natal, moving to ‘La La
Land’ and gracing the screens of one of the most exclusive industries in the world would’ve
seemed impossible at best. But not for Amy Letcher.

In the past three years alone, the South African small-town-girl turned Hollywood actress has guest starred in Emmy award winning shows Black Sails (shot in Cape Town) and NCIS (one of the USA’s top five most watched shows for the past 11 years); seen the New York debut of the autobiographical solo show that she wrote and stars in on the world renowned Theatre Row in New York City, in the largest solo theatre festival in the world; and appeared in commercials across the globe – from a Suzuki spot that aired in Japan, to a Vivo commercial that aired in China, and an online promo for the new Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery game, which already has over 5.1 million views.

To top it all off, she ended 2018 working with Matthew Weiner (creator of Mad Men and The Sopranos) on his new series The Romanoffs.

“I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunities that I’ve had.” says Letcher. “It’s surreal, arriving at work in the morning at Universal Studios. I used to dream about that when I was a kid. I remember being young and telling people I wanted to be an actress – mostly they’d laugh. But I’m lucky, I have parents who told me nothing is impossible. They taught me about faith and tenacity, and now…here we are. There’s so much more to do, of course. But I’m thankful for where I’m at, and excited for what’s to come.” As well she should be. With a mantra like ‘nothing is impossible’, the future certainly seems bright.
