  • STEP 1: Go to the SASSA SRD grant website https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status
  • STEP 2: Enter ID number and your cellphone number
  • STEP 3: Then click “Submit” to check your status
  • STEP 4: You will be able to see the status of your R350 grant application

If your SASSA R350 grant application status check shows “declined” or “rejected”, you can appeal if you feel like your R350 grant application has been denied for a reason that you believe is not fair.

SASSA has declined over 3.7 million SRD grant applications and has approved more than 8.3 million SRD grant applications.

SASSA R350 Grant Application Rejected

Here are possible reasons as to why your SASSA R350 grant application was rejected. The main requirement for the covid-19 R350 grant is that you must not receive any income, grants, Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) money or the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). If you receive any of these, your application will be rejected.

“For one to qualify for the COVID-19 grant, they must be either unemployed without any kind of income, or not receiving any kind of government assistance, such as UIF and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)” – SASSA said

SRD grant applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered:

  • South African Citizens, Permanent Residents or Refugees registered with Home Affairs;
  • Resident within the borders of the Republic of South Africa;
  • Above the age of 18;
  • Unemployed;
  • Not receiving any income;
  • Not receiving any social grant;
  • Not receiving any unemployment insurance benefit and does not qualify to receive unemployment insurance benefits;
  • Not receiving a stipend from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme;
  • Not receiving any other government COVID-19 response support; and
  • Not resident in a government funded or subsidised institution.

SASSA R350 Grant Application Appeal

  • Step 1: Visit the SRD Website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za
  • Step 2: Click on the “application for reconsideration” tab and you will be redirected to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reconsideration
  • Step 3: Then provide your South African ID Number and Phone Number, then click “Send PIN”
  • Step 4: Follow the prompts to complete the reconsideration of your SASSA R350 grant application

Please note you only have 30 days from the date of rejection to lodge your appeal. You need to start a new appeal for each declined application because nothing is be done automatically.
