Sjava received two nominations for Favourite Song of the Year and Favourite Music Artist or Group categories. Sjava was also set to perform on the night and MultiChoice has now also cancelled his performance on Saturday, 14 March.

“The DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards has decided to withdraw the nomination of local artist Jabulani Hadebe popularly known as Sjava, from this year’s awards.” – Reggy Moalusi, Executive Head of Corporate Affairs at MultiChoice South Africa said in a statement.

“This as a result of an ongoing investigation into the local performer by the authorities. The decision to remove Sjava’s eligibility, including cancelling his performance at the awards is not one that has been made lightly, but we believe is in the best interest of all parties concerned.”

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday to release a statement, Sjava wrote: “I did not rape her [Lady Zamar].” He also provided a timeline of the actions he has taken since the allegations first became public last year October.
