Skeem Saam actor Paul Sewetsi arrested for allegedly selling illicit cigarettes

Skeem Saam actor Paul Sewetsi was granted R1000 bail in the Polokwane magistrates court after being arrested for allegedly selling illicit cigarettes.

Paul Sewetsi wasn’t acting when he appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. Paul was one of five people arrested for allegedly dealing in illicit cigarettes.

According to News24, Paul Sewetsi, Charles Kgomo, Jackson Ika, Portia Ndou and Brown Makumbe were arrested in an early morning operation by the Hawks on Wednesday after a tip-off from members of the public.

Three suspects including Sewetsi were granted R1000 bail each. According to the publication, the state first suggested to Ungra that bail for Sewetsi, who portrays a pastor on Skeem Saam, be set at R3 000. However, magistrate Janine Ungerer granted Sewetsi R1,000 bail and postponed the case to October 5 for further investigation.

The court was told that the 44-year old actor was found in possession of 10 packets of Remington Gold cigarettes, worth R267. In total, the Hawks seized 45 cartons, worth R12 000. A cash amount of R9 681 was also confiscated.

“The team seized 45 cartoons of Remington Gold cigarettes to the value of R12,000 as well as R9,681 in cash” – Hawks provincial spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said

The suspects are facing charges of contravention of Customs and Excise Act 91 of 1964 and dealing in illicit cigarettes.
