The Afrikaans-language drama Skemerson is this month’s May local release on Ster-Kinekor’s silver screen. A drama inspired by true events which tells a moving story of hope, shining a much-needed light on depression and mental illness.

“Dis okay om nie okay te wees nie.” A young man, Sella Beyers (Pietie Beyers) is battling a mental illness, and hovering on the brink of taking his own life. As he is about to jump from Bloukrans Bridge, he hears a woman laughing. His subsequent meeting with Emma (Anneke Weidemann), and her frail mother (Elize Cawood), will change all of their lives. Directed by Phillip Rademeyer and written by Pietie Beyers, Skemerson is inspired by true events and is now showing at Ster-Kinekor cinemas.
