South African celebrities can’t get enough of Snapchat’s new ‘gender swap’ filter. This new filter allows users to get a glimpse of what they would look like as the opposite gender.

Snapchat is a multimedia messaging app used globally, created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown, former students at Stanford University, and developed by Snap Inc., originally Snapchat Inc.

This app was released in 2011 and, since then, has risen to having over 187 million daily active users with over 10 billion daily video views.

As reported by axios.com, while some in the LGBTQ community have been critical of the filters as making a joke out of a serious matter, others say the filters have allowed them to explore themselves in the safety of a digital world.

How it works: The filters, which are powered by machine learning and debuted late last week, transform a Snapchat user’s hair, facial shape and other aesthetics to make them either more traditionally masculine or feminine.

In case you missed, your favourite local celebrities also getting in on the fun as well. The likes of Connie Ferguson, Thando Thabethe, Pearl Modiadie, Nasty C and Mo Flava also joined the fun. Check out how they would look like if they as the opposite gender:
