The Youth Achiever Award is presented to a newcomer or young person within the industry who has demonstrated excellence in their craft, and in doing so made a significant contribution to local film and television.

The inaugural award went to Thapelo Mokoena in 2017, recognising his extensive achievements as an actor, television presenter, and founder of his own production company, Thapelo Mokoena Productions.

Last year, the award went to creative entrepreneur, Ayanda Sithebe, the founder and CEO of Actor Spaces, a digital magazine promoting excellence across theatre, film and television.

As the custodians of the SAFTAs, the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) have called for nominations for this year’s Youth Achiever Award. The finalists will be evaluated by a panel of judges drawn from across the industry, with the winner being announced at this year’s SAFTAs on 2 March 2019.

“Ster-Kinekor is a dedicated supporter of the South African film industry, and we are especially enthusiastic about the development of young talent,” says Motheo Matsau, Chief of Marketing and Sales for Ster-Kinekor. “This is why we are continuing to sponsor the SAFTAs Youth Achiever Award in 2019. It is always a pleasure to be made aware of the sheer talent, innovation and hard work of our youth within the South African film and television industry, and we look forward to rewarding exceptional achievement.”
