KFC gets streetwise with Distruction Boyz

KFC has always been inspired by the streets and when you put the right things together, that’s streetwise! South Africa’s most loved consumer brand – as voted for by 2017 Sunday Times Top Brands Awards – has teamed up with Gqom hitmakers Distruction Boyz for an edgy integrated Streetwise 2 campaign.

How do the two link you ask? It’s simple, birthed around the concept of putting two and two together to create something amazing, just like the Distruction Boyz – whose music is a result of fusing beats from various genres to create something amazing – KFC gives you 2 pieces of its great tasting original recipe chicken and chips (the perfect combination) … at the perfect price.

“We looked at how best we can continue to add value to our customers through our flagship meal that has resonated so well with them over the past 47 years. Streetwise 2 has always been the meal for the Streetwise and we’ve never changed because, just like them, we know what works. 2 pieces of chicken and chips…the perfect combination. But we didn’t stop there. We put chicken with chips, and we put it at the perfect price of R29,90 and we did it for the streetwise,” says Thabisa Mkhwanazi, Public Affairs Director at KFC Africa.

Distruction Boyz accused of stealing Omunye

Distruction Boyz stole Omunye

Durban’s popular gqom duo, the Distruction Boyz have been accused of stealing Omunye track. The Distruction Boyz duo consists of Thobani “Que” Mgobhozi and Zipho “GoldMax” Mthembu.

According to Zalebs, this all started as a rumour that Distruction Boyz’s summer smash ‘Omunye’ sounded too similar to DJ Lag’s own composition called ‘Trip to New York’.

A forensic copyright investigation has reportedly found that the tempo, key signature and instrumentation on sensational gqom hit Omunye is similar to another song that had dropped three months before Distruction Boyz released their version, City Press reports.

The Distruction Boyz, however, deny the theft. Instead, the link between Omunye and Trip to New York can be found in the Cape Town producer the Distruction Boyz say they bought the song from, DJ Mphyd.
