Nay Maps and Rudi Witkowsky Are The #TIOT8 Runners Up

Nay Maps and Rudi Witkowsky TIOT8 Runners Up

In what has to be the most nail-biting finale of any Tropika Island of Treasure to date, Brendan Peyper and Lisanne Lazarus (#TeamRed) came out victorious in the final challenge, making them the winners of #TIOT8 and that coveted R1 million prize! In tonight’s final episode of the series, #TeamRed fought hard to beat Nay Maps and Rudi Witkowsky (#TeamYellow) for the title of #TIOT8 champions.

Did #TeamYellow expect to go head to head against #TeamRed in the final? Both Maps and Witkowsky note “yes”.

“We knew that there was a strong possibility that if we had to make it the finals, we could face #TeamRed because they were very strong in the first few challenges and were really consistent throughout the season,” says Maps.

Witkowsky echoes Maps’ sentiments, and adds: “While we expected to compete in the final against #TeamRed, the fact that there were so many Slenda Twists throughout #TIOT8 meant that the game could turn at any point – making it anyone’s final! #TIOT8 was really full of surprises”.

Khanya Mkangisa and Mpande Buthelezi become the final team to be eliminated on #TIOT8

Khanya Mkangisa and Mpande Buthelezi

In the last elimination of the season, Khanya Mkangisa and Mpande Buthelezi (#TeamWhite) are the latest duo who had to say goodbye to the Maldives, and, to their shot at the R1 million prize.

#TeamWhite are no strangers to elimination challenges and have surprised competitors and fans alike on numerous occasions throughout the season as they’ve come out on top every elimination challenge they found themselves in. In the final elimination challenge which aired last night, they unfortunately could not keep up the momentum. This makes them the fifth team to be eliminated, leaving Nay Maps & Rudi Witkowsky (#TeamYellow) and Brendan Peyper & Lisanne Lazarus (#TeamRed) to go head to head in next weeks’ big finale of #TIOT8.

To find out who walks away with that coveted R1 million prize, tune in to the Tropika Island of Treasure season 8 finale on SABC3 at 19:30 on Monday 30 April 2018.

Q&A with Khanya Mkangisa and Mpande Buthelezi shortly after being eliminated:

What did you learn most about yourself throughout the competition?

Khanya Mkangisa: My time on Tropika Island of Treasure was incredible and it gave me the opportunity to physically see what I have always known to be true about myself. I learnt that I am strong and that I can endure anything. It was an experience I will never forget.

Mpande Buthelezi: I learnt that perseverance goes a long way. Something that surprised me the most was the determination I (and my partner) had. #TeamWhite were in quite a few elimination challenges throughout the season, but we fought hard and made it through them all – until now!

Where do you think you could have improved?

Khanya Mkangisa: It was no secret that #TeamWhite were the underdogs and no one expected us to get this far in the competition. Although we did well, there is always room for improvement. I probably could’ve been more patient with my partner and handled situations better under pressure.

Mpande Buthelezi: I definitely could have improved on my communication skills. When I was busy with a challenge and in an intense mode of focus, I didn’t communicate much (especially as much as I should have); I just kept quiet and got on with the challenge at hand. But I’ve started working on that.

Karabo Mogane and Lihle Ngubo exit Tropika Island Of Tresure

Karabo Mogane and Lihle Ngubo

Last night saw another shocking elimination take place on Tropika Island Of Tresure. #TeamGreen, which consists of Karabo Mogane and Lihle Ngubo, were the fourth team to leave the Maldives after a series of challenges saw them at the bottom of the leaderboard.

The team has remained consistent throughout the series so far, but, their time on the island is up. Their exit started off with an exciting quest-like challenge called ‘Hole In My Bucket’. As the name suggests, teams needed to fill a bucket with water by using a bowl with water from ocean. However, both the bucket and the bowl had holes in them which meant that the teams needed to use their speed skills to fill up the bucket in the fastest time to win the challenge. After a grueling challenge which saw #TeamGreen unable to fill up their bucket, the team forfeited the challenge which put them in last place.

The second challenge, named ‘Swim n’ Pull’, required teams to pick one member to swim into the ocean to retrieve one of four bags from buoys, with the other pulling them back to shore. Once the four bags were retrieved, the bags, which each held a bottle of Tropika, needed to be opened; once all four Tropika bottles were on the table, the challenge ended. Karabo and Lihle placed third which scored them two points. However, it wasn’t enough to keep them out of the elimination challenge.
