South African comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and television host, Trevor Noah has launched the Trevor Noah Foundation.

The Trevor Noah Foundation is a non-profit organisation that equips orphans and vulnerable youth with the education, life skills, and social capital necessary to pursue further opportunity after graduating high school or matric.

Speaking at the press conference, Trevor said “Fundamentally it is an organisation that is initially going to focus primarily on education. Figuring out how to bridge the gap between a child and the education that we feel that they deserve.”

Trevor Noah opens up to Oprah Winfrey about his mom

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey as part of her SuperSoul Conversations series, comedian Trevor Noah opened up about his mother and the major influence she has had on his life.

Noah paid homage to his mother in a short video clip uploaded to the Oprah Winfrey Network’s YouTube channel.

Oprah started off by commenting on how “badass” Trevor’s mom was.

“Most people would have a sign to protest government oppression, my mother had me. In telling my story and writing this book, I never thought it was about my mom. I think most of us believe that we are the heroes of our story and in writing this story, I realised that I was my mother’s punk ass side-kick,” said Trevor.

When writing Born A Crime, Trevor didn’t intentionally set out to focus it around his mother. He was simply telling his life story.

Ever since Trevor Noah revealed that his ‘Born A Crime‘ book was adapted into a movie, people have speculated on who should play him in his movie. Scandal actor’s name Brighton Ngoma emerged more than any other name.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Brighton said he was humbled by the suggestion and it would be an honour to play the role of Trevor Noah in an upcoming movie about his life.

“We quite similar‚ apparently – the jury is still out on that one‚” he said with a laugh.

“On a serious note‚ it would be a fantastic honour to play someone like Trevor Noah. He has done amazing things and has been a pioneer in our entertainment industry. He’s done great things for South Africans and young black Africans,” – he said.

Brighton Ngoma said he was amused by the suggestion but would only start taking it seriously when agents started calling.

Trevor Noah bags SuperSoul Sunday interview with Oprah

The Daily Show host Trevor Noah announced over the weekend that he was part of Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations recently.

Noah was interviewed on Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations in front of a live audience at New York’s legendary Apollo Theatre.

Oprah discussed Noah’s memoir, Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood, as well as the current political climate in the United States.

They discussed both having grown up using an outhouse. She said, “You never get over that smell.” Noah recounted a rumour from his childhood that a child had fallen into the pit toilet. “I was sure that had happened!” he said, pointing out that his grandmother still lives in the house he was brought up in, and still uses the outhouse, although it now has modern plumbing.
