Former Isidingo star Terence Bridgett has “finally” joined Generations: The Legacy.

Bridgett, who is best known for his role as Chico Booysens in the SABC3 soapie Isidingo, a role which garnered him an Avanti Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2001, says he is “deeply excited to finally” join the cast of Generations: The Legacy.

“I am deeply excited, on many levels, it’s a life full cycle thing, to finally be on Generations. I used to hang out in the Generations’ green room because it was fab and the crew would ask me if I’m coming to the show and finally I can say yes”.

The flamboyant actor revealed that he’s been in talks with the soapie for some time and he’s happy the cat is out of the bag, even before he starts shooting.

“It is something that has been brewing for some time. The PR chose to reveal it before I even start shooting so that we can be in more control of what’s going out there, and it’s difficult to keep anything under wraps these days anyway”.

Bridgett will start shooting in October and he will make his highly anticipated debut in Mzansi’s popular soapie in December.

Speaking about the over-the-top characters that he normally plays, Bridgette said his new role on Generations is nothing like any of the roles he’s played before.
“‘This is closer to the normal, strong, married guy with children, which is not a departure for me.

“My lecture at university told me I’d never to play villains because my eyes are too gentle and all I’ve ended up playing are wife beaters, alcoholics, gangsters, villains, drug dealers.

“So it’s quite weird, because for me  it’s either extreme or out there character like (the character) in 7de Laan, or very extreme dark characters like Chicco in Isidingo or uncle Denton from High Rollers, that sort of.

“I think Michael is not as extreme as either , he’s pretty much a family man, like I said family is something that resonates with everyone and he is a powerful man with interesting contacts. And I will have to kill you if I tell you more,” he laughs.

Generations The Legacy cast

Asked if the family will be introduced all at once, and trying to enquire about the wife and kids, Bridgette chose to remain mum about that part.

“It will be done in a way that will hopefully resonate with a current Generations audience which is entirely foreign audience to me from Isidingo days because Isidingo days covered the entire demographic of the country.

“I think it’s a very brave and important choice that the producers and the writers and the channels have made to introduce a coloured dynasty into Generations reality, one that is able to integrate and be realistic, which is why I’ve been learning Xhosa, Zulu and Sotho over the last few years”, he said.

Making the big announcement on Tuesday at the upcoming viewing and catch up session with the Generations cast, the hostess Thando Thabethe ensures Bridgett that he is welcome as the new addition to the Generations — the Legacy family.

Joining in to welcome Bridgette were fellow Generations cast Brenda Mhlongo who plays Jack Mabaso’s wife, Ronnie Nyakale aka Cosmo, Musa Ngema (Mazwi) and his onscreen wife Pearl Monama, Rapulana Seiphemo and the soapie’s Executive Producer, Mfundi Vundla.
