The Beast Foundation postpones annual Bootcamp

The Beast Foundation, established in August 2020, had planned to host the Beast Foundation Annual Rugby Bootcamp in July 2021. The Beast Foundation regrettably has had to make the decision to postpone the Annual Rugby Bootcamp in accordance with government regulations.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the current rise in infection rates combined with the announcement by the Department of Basic Education on Wednesday 19 May 2021 banning all school sports, the board of the Beast Foundation has come to the difficult decision to postpone the Rugby Bootcamp and Tryouts Roadshow planned to start in July 2021. The Foundation is now looking to start the nationwide Recruitment Roadshow later in the year.

“In the face of the evolution of the COVID-19 health crisis, and the rise in infection rates amongst participants of contact sports, we have chosen to put the health of everyone involved first. While this may cause some frustration, we have made the health and well-being of our participants, players and all the people involved in The Beast Foundation Annual Rugby Bootcamp, our absolute priority. We cannot thank you enough for your patience and understanding in this very uncertain scenario. We will never forget this,” says Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira.

The Beast Foundation’s bootcamp is an all-expenses paid programme open to boys and girls between 16 and 20 years old. The camp will be held at the home of the Natal Sharks, and includes a uniform, playing kit, accommodation, transportation, food and learning material, learning sessions which unpacks the theory of rugby, scientific elements and actual coaching conducted by professionals.

The participants will also get to meet national and international rugby players, the chance to travel and get scouted to play professionally and an accredited certificate at the end of the programme. In addition, being afforded the opportunity to attend the bootcamp, The Beast Foundation will link beneficiaries to bursary opportunities for both local and international education and facilitate exchange programmes.

The Beast Foundation and Mtawarira would like to thank their partners; the Sharks rugby team, Henley Business School, The Inspired group, Teach South Africa, Viacom, ASICS and the Department of Sports, Art and Culture, Brand South Africa and South African Tourism for their continued support and for their commitment to the safety, health and security of the participants.

“Just because we have to postpone the camp does not mean that the excitement and preparation stops,” adds Mtawarira, “this additional time will give players more opportunity to sign up and we encourage players to watch our social media pages for announcements.

“The Beast Foundation is still very much active and will use all means to stay connected with rugby players across the country to help them stay fit and motivated,” says Mtawarira, “I know how difficult this time is for all our rugby hopefuls, and I want them to know that I will do all I can to assist them. I’ll be online helping our youngsters stay fit and mentally stable until such time as we can hit the field again.
