The Close Up with Upcoming Artist Makaviwe

Every month, at Quick Read Magazine we highlight some of our favourite young upcoming artists in the “Unseen Talents” category. This time we set down with our favourite rising star, Makaviwe, whose real name is Siviwe Makhetha. This new artist looks he’s about to finish 2020 stronger. This could mean commercial domination for Makaviwe of his creative vision.

Who are you and how did you become an artist?

Siviwe Makhetha, professionally known as Makaviwe, is a South African rising artist, writer, producer and a performer. “The name Makaviwe means ‘I have to be heard’, which is a wish I have for people concerning my music.”

“I wrote my first verse in grade 4 after listening much to Lil Wayne’s Carter 3. Obviously I didn’t have much dedication in fourth grade as I do now. It wasn’t until I completed my University studies and decided that I should pursue this dream full time.” – he said

Who is your inspiration or what inspires you the most?

I’m a child of hustlers. My parents inspire me and although they couldn’t help with some other things I wanted, they weren’t lacking in raising me with intent to be the best version of my true self despite any weaknesses I thought would ever bring me down. My parents support my music and have great expectations for my art.

What advise can you give to other upcoming talents out there?

Believe in yourself! Public opinion allows mainstream artists to stay mainstream because people are hesitant to believe and give an ear to upcoming talents like myself. It’s the belief that mainstream artists had when they were only upcoming talents that led them to their greatness. As upcoming artists, we owe it to ourselves to believe in our talents and perfect our art craft to the fullest.

What projects are you currently working on?

I’m releasing my debut mix-tape early next year titled ‘No Graduation‘. I’ve released two music videos under my record label ‘Hoodfellasz Entertainment‘. The songs will be available on the mixtape too. The music videos are available on YouTube and can be viewed below:
