The first annual South African DJ Awards

The first annual South African DJ Awards (SADA) aims to give recognition to local DJs for their outstanding work in producing good music that makes people sweat and keeps them on the dance floor.

The SADA was supposed to take place on Saturday 23 December at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban. However, according to IOL, a press statement was released saying the event has been postponed due to the unavailability of most of the nominees because it’s the festive season and the DJs have other commitments or are booked all around South Africa.

According to The Juice, the awards features many categories, including the best House DJ, best Gqom DJ, DJ song of the year, best radio station DJ, best male and female DJ.

Umalume hit-maker DJ Tira is having a good year with his record label Afrotainment being nominated in three categories – best male DJ, DJ song of the year with Malume featuring Tipcee and best collaboration for Amadada by DJ Gukwa featuring Tipcee.

Tira’s Distruction Boyz took South African music by storm and they’ve also been recognised after being nominated in the best Gqom DJ, best duo and DJ song of the year with Shut Up and Groove featuring Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha categories.

New star Tipcee is also nominated for best dance artist, DJ song of the year with Malume and best collaboration for Amadada by DJ Gukwa.
