The Lion King Movie Breaks Disney Box Office Records With $79 Million on Friday

Disney’s “The Lion King” movie has broken Disney’s box office record with $79 million on Friday. The movie, a remake of the 1994 animated classic, could make up to $200 million over its opening weekend in the US. In Thursday previews, the movie earned $23 million.

The Lion King movie is also expected to have the biggest July opening weekend ever. The movie could be on its way to the second biggest domestic opening of 2019 so far, with Avengers: Endgame in front of it. ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’ is the previous record holder, which saw the movie earning $169 million in 2011.

According to Boxoffice.com, as of Friday, ‘The Lion King’ had already made more than $270 million worldwide.

The Walt Disney Company currently holds the top five movie releases of 2019 at the global and domestic box offices. Some of the movies include “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” “Toy Story 4”, “Aladdin” and many more.
