Brand New Drama Mamello On SABC2

The new drama series Mamello starts on SABC 2 on Wednesday, 12th August 2015 at 21h30.

The name of the series, MAMELLO, means RESILIENCE. Keneilwe (played by Tsholo Mashaba) and Patrick (played by Jude Tshisevhe) are drawn together, not only by their love, but also by their common vision for the school, their idealism, and their genuine passion for the school and for the students. They are teachers who love teaching. Together, through the series, they face numerous challenges in the school ranging from a basic lack of resources, under-qualified teachers and an ever-changing curriculum to child-headed households, drugs and gangs to rape, a viral sex video and teenage pregnancies.

The drama was shot on various locations in the Gauteng area to ensure that its’ look is as authentic as possible. This is a family drama that aims to encourage parent, children and communities to be open and honest about their challenges and also seek solutions together and we hope the South African audience welcomes and relates to it on all levels.

SYNOPSIS:

Escaping an abusive marriage, idealistic principal and teacher Keneilwe Mogotsi has returned to Sebokeng, the industrial township she ran away from as a young woman. Her mission is to rescue Mamello High,a disadvantaged school on the verge of being closed down. Can she rebuild the school as she rebuilds her life?

“Shooting Mamello was quite a teeth clucking experience. Temperatures were always below 18 degrees. Truly speaking it was a wonderful experience, as much as it was physically and emotionally challenging, it was worth it. The cast was awesome. It was always a party hanging with them” commented, Tsholo Matshaba who plays Keneilwe.
