Application Procedures

Undergraduate Applicants

All first-time undergraduate applicants must apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO).

Steps to Apply via CAO:

  1. Visit the CAO website.
  2. Click on the “Apply” tab.
  3. Read the provided information and click on “Continue with Application.”
  4. Enter your ID number or CAO number and click “Submit.”
  5. Complete the application form with accurate personal and academic details.

  • Certified copy of your National Senior Certificate or equivalent.
  • Grade 11 final results and Grade 12 June results (if currently in Grade 12).

  • International applicants: R300

Postgraduate Applicants

Postgraduate applications are submitted directly to UKZN.

Steps to Apply:

  1. Visit the UKZN Online Applications Portal.
  2. Download and complete the relevant application form.
  3. Submit the form along with required documents via the Freshdesk portal:
  • Go to Freshdesk.
  • Click on “Applications and Information.”
  • Click on the “Submit a ticket” tab.
  • Fill in the required fields and submit.

  • Certified copies of academic transcripts and certificates.
  • Proof of payment of the application fee.
  • Research proposal or proposed title (for Master’s and PhD applicants).
  • SAQA evaluation certificate (for international qualifications).

  • South African applicants: R210 (on-time), R420 (late)
  • International applicants from SADC and other African countries: R490
  • International applicants from outside Africa: US$153

International Applicants

  • Provide an evaluation document from Universities South Africa (USAf) for undergraduate studies or from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) for postgraduate studies.
