What is Google Meet?
Google Meet (formerly Hangouts Meet) is a video-communication service developed by Google. It’s free for everyone to use for personal video chats. Previously, the service was available only to organizations using G Suite, Google Meet is now open to everyone.
Anyone with a Google Account can create an online meeting with up to 100 participants and meet for up to 60 minutes per meeting. It includes features such as scheduling, screen sharing and real-time captioning.
Businesses, schools, and other organizations can create meetings with up to 250 internal or external participants and live streaming to up to 100,000 viewers within a domain.
How to sign up for Google Meet
To sign up for Google Meet is free for personal use. If you’re already using Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, or another Google product, you can visit meet.google.com and just sign in to your existing Google Account.
How Does Google Meet Work?
Here’s how to use the free version of Google Meet:
- Step 1: Visit meet.google.com
- Step 2: Then click on “Sign In” – Google Meet Login page
- Step 3: Once logged in, click “New Meeting” or enter your meeting code
There’s an option to create a meeting for later, start an instant meeting or schedule the meeting in Google Calendar.
Google Meet App
While Gmail may come pre-installed on most smartphones by default, the Google Meet app is not. So you will need to visit the App Store if you are using iOS device or visit Play Store if you are an Android phone user.
Here’s how to download the Google Meet App:
- Step 1: Go to Play Store or App Store
- Step 2: Search for “Google Meet”
- Step 3: Click “Install” to download the app
- Step 4: Once you install the app then open it
- Step 5: Sign into the app with your email and password
- Step 6: Tap on the “New meeting” button to create a new meeting or tap the “Join with a Code” option if you want to join an existing meeting.
G-Suite users can use their G-Suite account to join meetings as well.
