Zambia deports controversial South African dancer Zodwa Wabantu

Controversial South African entertainer Zodwa Wabantu has been deported from Zambia over concerns about Christian morality and that her performance would “undermine national values”.

According to reports found on Reuters, Zodwa’s promoter Lucky Munakampe told Reuters she had been put on an early South African Airways flight this morning.

Wabantu was due to perform in Lusaka tonight for a local entertainment company’s album launch. Zambia’s arts council had rejected the application for her to perform.

“The Council stated that…Zodwa’s performances were not in the public interest and undermined our national values,” the statement said.

The no-underwear dancer made headlines in the SADC country after the National Guidance and Religious Affairs Minister, Godfridah Sumaili told state-run newspaper The Times of Zambia that she was not welcome in the country and was promoting immorality.
