OpenView HD – SA’s fast growing Free to Air multi-channel platform

South Africa’s first free to air digital satellite platform is now in 300 000 South African households. OpenView HD is growing in leaps and bounds, there has been 100 000 new decoder installations in the last four months alone.

The digital satellite television service, which was launched in October 2013,has seen some exciting new channels added, bringing the total to 20 TV channels and 8 radio stations.

Platco MD, Maxwell Nonge says: “The stronger retail partnerships have contributed to a 300% increase in uptake of OpenView HD decoders in the market. Although the platform is active in 300 000 Households, we are already looking forward to the next milestone and more OpenView HD households. 2016 will be an exciting year for OpenView HD with more channels on the horizon. This is after all a very concrete television service that comes with no monthly fees.”

Thanks to IS20 the acquisition of OpenView HD is most simple for the households that already have a satellite dish installed. All that needed to be done is for the decoder to be purchased and plugged in.

The platform offers viewers over 20 entertainment channels across multiple genres and languages including English, Zulu, Afrikaans and Hindi. In addition to the channel offering, viewers can also tune in to eight Radio stations, with new additions: YFM, Gagasi FM, Heart FM, OFM, LM Radio and Kaya FM.

“We constantly strive to secure content that is guided by focused customer research to ensure that the channels are in line with the target audience’s viewing patterns.” Added Nonge
