Giggling Gourmet & Tannie Evita Team Up for Darling Trust Dinner

Darling Trust Dinner Jenny_Morris_Evita_Bezuidenhout_Jamie_Rowntree

This year sees the launch of a brand new fundraising initiative by The Darling Trust Dinner; a dinner and auction where Tannie Evita joins forces with Jenny Morris to bring guests a night of the wittiest entertainment combined with the best food imaginable and a chance to bid for some fabulous, generously donated auction lots.

Morris – aka the Giggling Gourmet – is one of South Africa’s most-loved food personalities, who expresses her passion for food through many different vocations; multiple cookbook author, magazine writer, radio broadcaster and TV presenter, celebrity chef, teacher, caterer and culinary tour guide, both locally and internationally. And if that wasn’t enough, Morris also runs her own much-lauded restaurant – Yumcious – with husband David in Cape Town’s Waterkant district.

Morris also often gives of her time and energy to raise funds for charity, a trait that started at a young age and which ultimately kicked off her love affair with food when, as a small girl, she prepared mouth-watering treats for fundraisers at her school.

We managed to corner Morris long enough to ask her a few questions:

Tell us a bit about your journey to achieving your goals of becoming South Africa’s Giggling Gourmet?

I always wanted to be chef but my late father was against it saying what kind of a job was this for a woman and would not pay for me to study cheffing. I decided when I left school I would “spite my father” by joining the Post Office Telecom division (now Telkom ), and trained as a telephone electrician and constructed exchanges. But I was determined to find a way into the food industry and approached a hotel so I could get into the hospitality industry knowing that If I started on the ground floor I would be able to work my way into the kitchen.

Talking about how he got the role in the movie, Jerry Mofokeng said his agent called him up:

“My agent calls me and says: ‘Look, these guys are asking for you, they’re inviting you to go do this, would you like to? I mean it’s really nothing big, nothing special but…then I say: ‘It’s gonna be an adventure, let’s do this thing.

I get on set and they don’t have a script, they just have a few lines and the more they see me doing things, the more they increase the dialogue and the scenes and so on…it was great fun, but it was an adventure that’s all that it was,” – Jerry Mofokeng said.

Melinda Bam And Kelly Gunnell Eliminated In Shock #TIOT8 Episode

Tropika Island Of Treasure Melinda Bam and Kelly Gunnell

The new season of Tropika Island Of Treasure is in full swing and after Tumi Voster and Mark-Anthony Bingham were the first to be eliminated, front-runners Melinda Bam and Kelly Gunnell (Team Coral) exited the show in what has become one of Tropika Island of Treasure’s most shocking eliminations.

Melinda and Kelly have been dominating the challenges throughout the season but after the leaderboard was cleared, their luck turned. Last week, the two received three points in a general knowledge challenge and the team couldn’t seem to pick themselves up. After being on the losing team of the human foosball challenge in last nights’ episode, Melinda and Kelly were the first team to complete and ultimately win the next puzzle challenge. But, after a tie-breaker challenge between competitors and #TeamBlue contestants Sbahle Mpisane and Nondu Mabizela, the two found themselves in the elimination challenge.

The elimination challenge saw bottom three teams Team Coral (Melinda Bam and Kelly Gunnell), Team White (Khanya Mkangisa and Mpande Buthelezi) and Team Yellow (Nay Maps and Rudi Witkowsky) test their puzzle-solving skills yet again and, shockingly, Team Coral came in last. The elimination came as a shock to the remaining contestants and is a reminder that anybody could leave at any time.
