Petrol Prices South Africa: Here’s Petrol Price Per Litre From Wednesday, 6 September 2023

The petrol price in South Africa increased by R1.71 per litre on Wednesday, 6 September 2023. This means that a litre of 95 Unleaded petrol now costs R23.82 per litre at the coast and R24.54 in the inland regions, where 93 Unleaded now rises to R24.14.

Here are the new fuel prices in South Africa for September 2023:

  • 93 ULP: R24.14 per litre
  • 95 ULP: R23.82 per litre
  • Diesel (0.05% sulphur): R24.84 per litre
  • Diesel (0.005% sulphur): R24. 76 per litre
  • Illuminating Paraffin: R22. 88 per litre

The fuel price is adjusted on a monthly basis, based on a number of factors, including the international oil price, the exchange rate between the rand and the US dollar, and the slate levy. The slate levy is a government tax that is used to fund road infrastructure projects.

“South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis, informed by international and local factors. International factors include the fact that South Africa imports both crude oil and finished products at a price set at the international level, including importation costs, e.g. shipping costs.” – The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Mr Gwede Mantashe says

The recent increase in the fuel price is due to a number of factors, including the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has caused the international oil price to rise. The rand has also weakened against the US dollar, which has also contributed to the increase in fuel prices.

The high fuel price is a major concern for South African motorists, as it is putting a strain on household budgets. The government has said that it is working to find ways to reduce the impact of the high fuel price, but it is not clear what measures will be taken.
