South Africa’s multiple award winning Hip Hop rapper and songwriter, Kwesta, entered the 23rd annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs) as the most nominated artist, and left the biggest winner bagging six awards in some of the most sought after categories over the weekend. The prestigious annual awards ceremony took place on Friday and Saturday evening at the Sun City Superbowl in the North West province.

Kwesta walked away with the following awards:

  • SAMRO Highest Airplay Of The Year for Ngud’ featuring Cassper Nyovest
  • SAMPRA Highest Airplay Of The Year for Ngud’ featuring Cassper Nyovest
  • Best Rap Album for Da KAR II
  • Best Male Artist Of The Year
  • Best Album Of The Year for Da KAR II
  • Best Collaboration for Ngud’ featuring Cassper Nyovest

Leading to the SAMAs, Kwesta had already started his winning streak last week Wednesday when his most personal music video to date, Ngiyaz’fela Ngawe, featuring Thabsie reached an impressive 2 million views on VEVO mark.  As if that wasn’t enough only 24 hours later, the video to another hit from the DaKAR II album, Ngud’ featuring Cassper Nyovest, hit a notable 4 million views on VEVO. Both music video milestone views were reached in remarkable timelines of 90 days and 15 months respectively.

Kwesta’s Ngud’ featuring Cassper Nyovest has been a ground breaking single for the South African Hip Hop culture, as the song transcended beyond Hip Hop listeners, to people of all ages, races and cultures.  Ngud’ maintained the number #1 position in the SA Top 100 Playlist chart for 12 consecutive weeks.

With six Top 20 radio singles released, an Album of the Year for South Africa nod from iTunes and Apple Music and 10 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 iTunes chart upon its release; Kwesta has positioned himself as a powerhouse artist with his highly acclaimed Da KAR II album not just in the South African music scene, but on the continent.

Kwesta’s SAMA wins are just another testament to his hard work and talent. Get your hands on Kwesta’s six times SAMA winning Da KAR II album here: https://sonymusicafrica.lnk.to/8YRVi
