Lorna Maseko meets Blue Mbombo, Mpho Popps and Sandile Mahlangu in the final episodes of Homegrown Tastes SA S2

In Episode 8 (Wednesday 26 April), Lorna meets her good friend, model Blue Mbombo in her home province of the Free State.

Together they explore Bloemfontein, starting off their journey on the beautiful Naval Hill. After a spa treatment, the pair cook bobotie-filled jaffles for lunch. With the goal of surprising and delighting her good friend for their final meal together, Lorna tracks down game biltong and a childhood favourite; Cactus Pears.

Their final meal together includes a South African take on a Philly cheese sandwich, using biltong, and a truly unique Cactus Pear Trifle for desert.

In Episode 9 (Wednesday 2nd May) Lorna meets petrol head and comedian Mpho Popps in Soweto. The pair take a drive around Meadowloands in Mpho’s pride and joy; a 1991 BMW he has named Stefano DiMera. Mpho and Lorna then arrive at the Soweto Drift academy, where they learn how to burn rubber.

In a bid to awaken Popps’ sweet tooth, Lorna makes some Lemongrass Ghemere & scones for them to enjoy together.

In a bid to create something truly surprising for their final meal together, Lorna makes her way to source the worlds most expensive milk, at The Donkey Dairy. There she learns all about what makes donkey milk so unique. She then travels to a farm to learn all about South Africa’s very own chicken breed, the Potch Koekkoek.

To end off the episode, Lorna and Popps enjoy chicken pot pies, and a donkey milk panna cotta finishes the meal off perfectly.

In Episode 10 (Wednesday 9th May) Lorna and her celebrity guest Sandile start their journey through Mpumalanga in the scenic panorama route which snakes its way along the escarpment.

After taking in the beautiful scenery, adrenaline junky Sandile takes Lorna for an exciting taboggan ride. For their light lunch, they enjoy Seared springbok, avocado, roasted tomatoes goats cheese with fresh herbs & cous cous.

With South Africa being the world’s largest producer of Macadamia nuts, Lorna is keen to find out more about them and how she can incorporate them into her recipes.

To end the day, Lorna creates an incredible meal of savoury Baked Rice with mango saffron & Chilli Mango glazed duck breast & Macadamia millionaire bar/tart, for her and Sandile to enjoy.
