Official etv website confirmed the passing of  Rhythm City actor Dumi Masilela.

“It is with great sadness that e.tv confirms the death of Rhythm City actor Dumi Masilela (29)” – announced on the website.

This comes after he was shot during a hijacking attempt in Tembisa on Wednesday, 2 August.

Police have confirmed Dumi died fighting for his life in hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Dumi made his first appearance on Rhythm City in January 2013. He played the role of S’fiso Ngema, a former street kid turned music executive, producer and artist at Red Records (previously known as Redemption Records).

Dumi was previously a professional soccer player who played for Supersport United but his career was thwarted by a car accident which saw him spend more than three years in rehabilitation.

He was also a talented singer who made it to the top 18 of Idols season 8 in 2012. Dumi married former Muvhango actress Simphiwe Ngema in May 2017.

etv further stated that meanwhile, Quizzical Pictures has halted production and will resume filming on Monday, 7 August.

e.tv sends its condolences to Dumi’s family, friends and Rhythm City colleagues.
