SABC Launches New Streaming Service SABC Plus

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has launched its long-anticipated Over-The-Top (OTT) media service platform, SABC Plus. SABC+ was launched in South Africa on Thursday 17th November 2022.

The SABC Plus streaming app will provide the best that the public broadcaster has to offer including 19 radio stations and three free-to air television channels SABC 1, SABC 2, SABC 3.

The package will also include the SABC Sports channel and the SABC’s 24-hour News channel.

The app will also feature a variety of local and international content to extend the corporation’s mission to inform, educate and entertain citizens everywhere and anytime.

SABC’s GCEO, Madoda Mxakwe, says the SABC Plus app signals a new digital era for the public broadcaster.

“This is a great milestone for the SABC and it’s also very great for our audiences. It’s a very inter-active platform and they can use it in a manner that can be able to view all our content whether you are talking radio, television, drama and all the great content that we have.”

SABC Qatar 2022 Partnership

SABC will also partner with Hisense for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and will distribute the app via the company’s smart TVs and other devices.

Hisense has entered into a partnership with FIFA to become an Official Sponsor of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ which will create an exclusive connection between the tournament’s worldwide audience in unique and compelling ways.

Starting 20 November, SABC and Hisense will air 28 matches of the FIFA World Cup and the official FIFA World Cup show daily for free.

Meanwhile, TelkomONE is no more and will be migrated to SABC Plus South Africa. TelkomONE AMP subscribers will gain automatic access to SABC+.
